Man Charged in Woodmere Home Burglary

The 45-year-old wrote a $10,000 from a stolen checkbook and deposited into his bank account, police say.

A Woodmere man was arrested on Sunday and charged in a home burglary that occurred last March.

According to police, Jonathan Hoffman, 45, entered a residence on June Court in Woodmere through an open door and once inside stole cash, assorted jewelry, a cellphone, a passport and checkbooks on the morning of March 6.

Hoffman also wrote a fraudulent check, from a stolen checkbook, in the amount of $10,000 which he then deposited into his bank account, police said.

Hoffman was known to the victim of the burglary and identified by witnesses, police said.

Hoffman is charged with second degree burglary, second degree possession of a forged instrument and third degree grand larceny. He will be arraigned on Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
