Man Damages Gas Station Equipment, Threatens Worker: Police

The man was arrested but did not give any identification and is considered a "John Doe," detectives say.

INWOOD, NY — A man is under arrest for robbing and damaging an Inwood gas station.

It happened just after 2:30 a.m. on Friday when a man entered the Sunoco gas station at 471 Burnside Ave, police said.

The man grabbed a glass bottle and smashed it on the counter, using the broken end to threaten a 32-year-old store employee, police said.

The man swiped the clerk's cellphone and threw the lottery machine causing it to break, causing approximately $2,000 in damages, detectives said.

Police said the man was taken into custody, but was non-compliant and is being processed as a "John Doe." He was expected to be get transferred to court for further identification.

The man faces several charges including, first-degree robbery, second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree menacing.

No one was injured in the incident.
