Man With Loaded, Illegal Gun Arrested After Vehicle Search: Police

NORTH LAWRENCE, NY — A man was arrested after being stopped with a loaded handgun in his vehicle, police said.

It happened Thursday just after 10 p.m. while officers noticed a 1998 Nissan Maxima with tinted windows on Rockaway Turnpike in North Lawrence.

During a search of the vehicle, police discovered a 9-millimeter, loaded gun with a 15-round magazine.

Steve Innocent, 32, from Far Rockaway, was arrested on charges of second and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Innocent was expected to be arraigned on Friday in Hempstead, according to police.
