Meeks Takes Lead in Election For 5th Congressional Primary

According to the unofficial results, Meeks received a total of 5,981​ votes while challenger Ali A. Mirza received a total of 1,327 votes.

Incumbent Gregory W. Meeks took the lead in the race for 5th Congressional District, according to the unofficial results by the New York State Board of Elections.

Meeks received a total of 5,981 votes while challenger Ali A. Mirza received a total of 1,327 votes. There were also 66 write-in votes.

According to unofficial results by the New York Board of Elections, Meeks took 80.88 percent of the vote to Mirza's 17.94 percent.

The winner of the primary will face Michael O'Reilly (R) and Frank Francois (G) in the general election.
