Nassau Firefighters, Police Rescue Dog Who Fell Through Ice

Police say the dog, named Lucky, fell through thin ice at a pond. Luckily, Lucky was able to be pulled to safety.

HEWLETT, NY — Nassau County police and Hewlett firefighters rescued a dog that fell through an icy pond on Sunday morning.

According to police, officers responded to Grant Park in Hewlett at 9:05 a.m. A golden retriever, named Lucky, had fallen through the ice on a partially frozen pond. The officers found the dog's owner, and then found Lucky out in the water.

The Hewlett Fire Department arrived on the scene, and rescue swimmers were able to get out onto the ice and rescue Lucky.

Lucky was taken to an animal hospital for evaluation.
