Nassau Police Rescue Hunters Stranded In Marsh

A gust of wind blew their boat away, leaving the duck hunters stranded.

HEWLETT HARBOR, NY — Nassau County police rescued a group of hunters who became stranded in the marsh south of Hewlett Harbor Thursday evening.

According to police, the Nassau County Marine Bureau got a call from a man at 6:55 p.m. who said he was duck hunting with to others in the marsh when a strong gust of wind blew their boat away, leaving them stranded.

The police dispatched a boat to the area, and a helicopter also responded. The helicopter used flood lights to light the area where the hunters were. The boat crew safely got the hunters on board and transported them back to shore.

A friend of the hunters found their boat and towed it back to shore. No one was injured.
