VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. — Mother's Day is a day to be kind to all moms — no matter the species. Nassau County Police Department officers proved that this week when they helped reunite a mother duck with her ducklings after they had become stuck in a storm drain in Valley Stream.

The officers in the Fifth Precinct got the call to a parking lot in on Sunrise Highway in Valley Stream after the ducklings had fallen through a grate and into a storm drain, where they became stuck. Using a bucket, a crowbar and lots of creativity, officers were able to safely get the ducklings out of the dirty water and reunite them with their mom.
