New York American Water Investing $300,000 in Valley Stream

Water Main Replacement Project Scheduled to Begin June 12, 2017

New York American Water (NYAW) is preparing to replace approximately 1,600 feet of six-inch aging water main that was installed in 1913 with new 12-inch ductile iron main along Catherine Street (from DuBois Avenue to Forest Avenue) in the Village of Valley Stream. In addition, the project will include replacing approximately 50 utility-owned service lines and four fire hydrants.

“It is of vital importance that we continue to invest in our water infrastructure systems to ensure the homes and businesses in our service territory have an uninterrupted supply of clean, quality water,” said NYAW President Carmen Tierno. “Our proactive infrastructure upgrading schedule takes into consideration the immediate needs of today as well as the potential needs for the future. We are preparing all of our water systems to ensure they are sustainable for the next generations of customers.”

This improvement project will enhance water service reliability and water flows for household consumption and firefighting in the area. A critical investment for the company, this project will provide customers with safe, reliable water service for years to come. Weather permitting, the work will begin the week of June 12 and is expected to be completed within four weeks.
