Install 1,400 feet of new eight-inch ductile iron main along three stretches of roadway

New York American Water is investing $600,000 to install 1,400 feet of new eight-inch ductile iron main along three stretches of roadway in Cedarhurst in order to replace and relocate the six-inch mains installed in 1920. Additionally, four hydrants will be replaced as well as 25 utility-owned services.
“New York American Water continues to place a priority on investing in the improvement of our water infrastructure systems in the communities we serve,” said John Kilpatrick, New York American Water’s Engineering Manager. “Continuing to modernize our below-ground assets allows us to improve system pressures and water quality, while also ensuring our customers have a dependable and sustainable water system for generations to come.”
This water main replacement project will be occurring along Lotus Street from Broadway, Tulip Street, and Ivy Street in Cedarhurst. The project is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete, which includes the installation of water main, chlorination, water quality sampling, Nassau County Department of Health approval, and the replacement of services. Final restoration will be completed three to four weeks after the last service is done to allow for the ground to properly settle.
