Peeping Tom Caught, Released Under New Bail Law: Nassau Police

Police say the man was recording a woman showering through her bathroom window. He was released on an appearance ticket.

(Nassau County Police Department)

A Valley Stream man whom police say was recording a woman through a window as she showered was arrested and released under New York's new bail reform law.

According to police, at 10:12 p.m. Saturday, Paul Cotugno, 31, of East Mineola Avenue, entered the backyard of a 25-year-old woman's home on Mineola Avenue. Police say Cotugno used a chair to look into the bathroom window and used his cell phone to record the woman showering. The woman saw him and screamed, police said, and Cotugno fled on foot. He was found a short time later and arrested without incident.

Cotugno is charged with second-degree unlawful surveillance and two counts of third-degree criminal trespassing. He was released on an appearance ticket returnable to First District Court in Hempstead on Jan. 23.
