Police Provide Safety Tips After Cop Impersonator Pulls Over, Robs Driver

Nassau Police have provided tips for local residents in case they get pulled over.

After a man impersonated a police officer to pull over a driver and steal his wallet in Woodmere earlier this week, Nassau Police have provided tips for local residents if they get pulled over.

In order to avoid a similar incident, police say that if you get pulled over you should:

  • Turn on your flashers to acknowledge you are being stopped.
  • Drive to a well-lit area.
  • Call 911 and ask them to verify that it is an official officer making the stop.
  • Keep doors locked and ask for proper identification.
  • Request a marked unit to respond to your location.
  • Do not exit vehicle until verification that it is a valid vehicle stop.
