OCEANSIDE, NY — A young boy was approached by a man in a light-colored SUV on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

It happened as the 11-year-old boy was walking home from school in the vicinity of Arrow Street in Oceanside.

The man claimed he was sent by the child's mother to pick him up, detectives said.

The boy did not comply and his mother called police regarding the incident.
