Sanitary District No. 1 Hosts Community 'Shred-It' and E-Waste Event to Safely Dispose of Personal Documents
Residents are Invited to Properly Dispose Documents with Personal Information

Lawrence, N.Y. (October 8, 2015) – The Sanitary District #1 Board of Commissioners James J. Vilardi, Frank Argento, Harry Beltrani, Irving Kaminetsky and Lino Viola, along with Superintendent George Pappas would like to invite residents to securely destroy outdated personal documents on Sunday, October 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The District will have its high-capacity Shredder Truck onsite to permanently destroy any private information, such as pre-approved credit offers, bank statements, pay stubs or tax returns and has partnered with GreenChip to safely recycle any unwanted electronics and dispose of e-waste.
“With identity theft on the rise, we invite the community to destroy confidential information in a safe environment,” stated Sanitary District #1 Commissioner Irving Kaminetsky. “During the ‘Shred-It’ and e-waste event, residents can dispose of those old papers and outdated or broken electronics, while giving us the chance to teach our neighbors how to properly destroy items which contain sensitive information.”
All electronic equipment will be handled by GreenChip, a service which erases personal information on the recyclable items in strict compliance with the Department of Defense, NAID and R2 standards. GreenChip’s Hard Drive Destruction Inventory System guarantees that no storage device leaves the facility with recoverable data. As an added service, all equipment can be itemized and tracked by serial number to ensure that nothing slips through the system.

“It’s a great time of year to clear out those items you’ve been meaning to recycle that take up space in our homes,” said Sanitary District #1 Commissioner Frank Argento. “While we’re at the event we’ll also remind residents they can cut-down on the amount of junk mail they receive by enrolling in the paperless option for bills and statements or unsubscribing to unwanted mailings. We encourage the community in joining the movement of saying no to unwanted paper mail to preserve our environment.”
Sanitary District #1 provides sanitation and recycling services to approximately 16,000 residential as well as commercial properties throughout the Villages of Cedarhurst, Hewlett, Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Harbor, Hewlett Neck, Inwood, Lawrence, Woodmere, Woodsburgh and portions of the unincorporated areas of Lynbrook and Millbrook.
