Sanitary District No. 1 Invites Community to Safely Dispose of Personal Information During Second "Shred-it" and E-Waste Even
Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2 Bay Boulevard, Lawrence, NY
Lawrence, N.Y. (May 4, 2016) – Sanitary District No.1 invites residents to participate in their second “Shred-it” and E-Waste event on Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. During this event, located at 2 Bay Boulevard, Lawrence, NY, residents will have an opportunity to securely discard outdated personal documents. The District will have multiple high-capacity Shredder Trucks onsite to permanently destroy any private information, such as pre-approved credit offers, bank statements, pay stubs or tax returns, and the District has partnered with GreenChip to safely recycle any unwanted electronics and dispose of e-waste.
“Given the success of our first Shred-it and E-Waste event, we wanted to provide the community with another opportunity to safely discard unneeded personal documents and electronics,” said James Vilardi, Chairman of the Sanitary District No. 1 Board of Commissioners. “Last year we learned there is a clear need in the community to properly destroy confidential information. This is just another service that saves our residents hundreds of dollars in shredding fees.”
All electronic equipment will be handled by GreenChip, a service which erases personal information on the recyclable items in strict compliance with Department of Defense, NAID and R2 standards. GreenChip’s Hard Drive Destruction Inventory System guarantees that no storage device leaves the facility with recoverable data. As an added service, all equipment can be itemized and tracked by serial number to ensure no items are left behind.

“We encourage residents to take part in free events like this as they ‘clean house’ of old paperwork and unused electronics,” said Sanitary District No.1 Commissioner Frank Argento. “This service provides residents with peace of mind knowing they do not have to worry about their personal information getting into the wrong hands.”
