MINEOLA, NY — A school bus driver from Queens was indicted last week after he was accused of kidnapping and raping a Valley Stream student who used his bus route between January and July, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said Monday.

Giovanny Campos, 50, from Jamaica, was arraigned Thursday on one count of second-degree kidnapping, one count of third-degree rape, two counts of third-degree criminal sex act, and one count of reckless endangerment, the DA said.

Campos pleaded not guilty, and bail was set at $150K cash, $300K bond, and $1.25 million partially secured bond, the DA said. He is due back in court on Dec. 12. If convicted of the top charge, he faces a potential maximum of 25 years in prison.

"School bus drivers are trusted to transport and protect our children, but this defendant allegedly preyed on a teenage student and sexually abused her both on his bus and at his apartment in Queens," Donnelly said in a news release.

Menachem White, who represents Campos, did not respond to Patch's request for comment.

Campos, also known to the girl as Giovanny Guzman, was employed as a bus driver with the Cheese Bus Company, prosecutors said. As part of his duties, Campos drove a route from Valley Stream Central High School in Valley Stream to Valley Stream North High School in Franklin Square, authorities said.

Campos picked up the teenage student between January and July 2023 along the route, officials said. Campos raped the child multiple times, including in a parking lot while still on the bus, investigators said. He also brought the teenager to his apartment in Jamaica to engage in sexual acts with her, prosecutors said.

Campos was arrested on Sept. 28 at his home in Queens by members of the Nassau County Police Department’s Special Victims Squad, officials said.

"This office is committed to prosecuting predators who prey on vulnerable children," Donnelly said. "If you believe or know of someone who may have been victimized by Giovanny Campos, please call the Special Victims Bureau at 516-571-1266."
