School District Unveils State-Of-The-Art Athletic Complex

The weekend ceremonies featured a 5k run and a parade before the games began at East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School.

EAST ROCKAWAY, NY — The community came together to celebrate a new state-of-the-art athletic complex at East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School.

The ceremony featured Board of Education members, administrators, student athletes and residents from the community.

The girls varsity softball and boys varsity baseball teams christened the newly reconstructed field by hosting games against Mineola and Valley Stream South, respectively.

Festivities started with the East Rockaway Education Foundation's 5K run. A parade followed at Centre Avenue Elementary School.

"We have literally changed the landscape of this campus. We have built incredible facilities not only for our students and faculty but for the district and for our greater community as well," Superintendent of Schools Lisa Ruiz said.

Board of Education trustee Dominick Vulpis threw the ceremonial first pitch for the softball game, while alumni Anthony Piazza, Mike Mistretta, Brandon Engstler and Tylar Killarney threw out the ceremonial baseball first pitch.
