VALLEY STREAM, NY — A New York State Trooper was injured in a crash Sunday after being rear-ended by a distracted driver on the Southern State Parkway, just west of exit 14, police said.

New York State Police said the crash took place at 5:47 a.m. Sunday, with a gray Jeep Wrangler striking the back of the marked state police car. Upon impact, the troop car swerved from the right lane to the left and center lanes, while the Jeep went off the road and stopped on the right shoulder, police said. Both drivers, police said, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
