Valley Stream Bicyclist Headbutts Officer During Arrest, Police Say

The man had been seen aggressively swerving his bike at women in Hendrickson Park multiple times in recent weeks, police say.

VALLEY STREAM, NY — A 21-year-old man is being charged with assaulting a police officer this week after he headbutted an officer while being buckled into a police car during an arrest, police said.

Nassau County police said 21-year-old Matthew Nunez had been placed under arrest after multiple reports of him swerving his bike aggressively at women in Hendrickson Park, in one instance swerving so erratically that both he and the woman he was riding near fell to the ground.

On Saturday, Nunez was spotted by that same woman, this time swerving his bike near a pair of elderly women, police said. When the woman called 911, Nunez fled to his home on Camdike Street, police said. When police found him and began arresting him, they found a switchblade on his person. Finally, as police were putting Nunez’s seatbelt on him, he headbutted an officer, police said. The police officer was hospitalized with a contusion on his head, police said.
