Nassau Condo Complex Catches Fire; 4 Households Displaced

VALLEY STREAM, NY — Six adults and a child were displaced when a fire broke out Monday morning at a Valley Stream condo complex, emergency officials said. Firefighters battled the four-alarm blaze at a building on North Corona Avenue, near Hendrickson Avenue, according to the Nassau County Fire Service Academy and Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department.

Firefighters asked residents to use caution and avoid the area. The complex is located near Wheeler Avenue School and Valley Stream State Park.

A spokesperson with Nassau County police told Patch the blaze started around 10:15 a.m. Monday. No injuries were reported and police were not notified of any road closures.

A spokesman for the American Red Cross told Patch in a statement it was helping four households who were displaced by the blaze. The Red Cross was providing them with emergency housing and financial assistance. Two teams were providing food, water and other relief items to the families at the scene.

Messages left with Valley Stream fire officials weren't immediately returned.
