Valley Stream Teen Charged With Shooting Gun at Car, Possession of Mushrooms: Police

The 17-year-old was arrested on Monday.

ELMONT, NY - A Valley Stream teen who was found in possession of mushrooms was arrested after shooting at a car in Elmont on Monday night, according to Nassau Police.

Officers responded to 45 S. Covert Avenue for shots fired at about 10:45 p.m.

Witnesses at scene told police that the person who fired the shots fled in a black Prius, which was found at the intersection of N. Fletcher Avenue and Kent Road in Valley Stream.

An investigation revealed that 17-year-old Rhayne O. Morris fired a 9 mm Interarms Firestar pistol hitting the car of a 35-year-old woman, police said.

Morris was also found to be in possession of mushrooms, police said. A 15-year-old boy also arrested at the scene was found to be in possession of mushrooms and Xanax, police said.

Morris is charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon, first degree reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a firearm, fourth degree criminal mischief and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.

The 15-year-old is charged with criminal possession of a firearm and two counts of seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.

They will both be arraigned on Wednesday.
