Woman Assaults Police Officer During Arrest: Detectives
Raquel Asonye also stole items from a Walmart at the Green Acres Mall, police say.

VALLEY STREAM, NY — A woman was arrested for assaulting a police officer on Sunday morning at the Green Acres Mall.
Raquel Asonye, 31, of Queens, was at a cell phone kiosk store, where an argument ensued with an employee, police said.
She knocked over a cell phone display causing damage, police said.

A short time later, police responded to the Walmart at the Green Acres Mall. Security notified officers that a woman was stealing items. An investigation led to a matching description from the earlier incident, detectives said.
They attempted to place Asonye in custody, but she resisted by flailing her arms and kicking officers, detectives said.

One officer suffered an injury to his right leg and right hand. He was treated at an area hospital.
Asonye is charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief and petit larceny. She was due to be arraigned on Monday, according to police.
