Woman Pulled Over With Handgun: Police

The woman was the front passenger in the car stopped in the Five Towns, Nassau police say.

NORTH LAWRENCE, NY — A woman was arrested for possessing a handgun. Tashayla Ayres, 19, of Brooklyn, was found with the gun after officers stopped a vehicle for having a defective tail light, police said.

It happened Monday just after 8 p.m. on Nassau Expressway in North Lawrence.

Ayres, who was arrested without incident, was the front passenger in the grey 2009 Mitsubishi, detectives said.

She is charged with criminal possession of a firearm. Ayres was issued an appearance ticket for court on Aug. 3.
