QUEENS, NY — The YMCA of Greater New York has broken ground on the new Bong and May Yu Family YMCA location in Flushing.
The 63,000-square-foot facility will be located 1.5 blocks from the current Flushing Y, closer to downtown Flushing, and will expand health, fitness and community programming for residents of all ages.
Planned features include an eight-lane, 25-yard swimming pool—the largest at any YMCA branch in New York City—a high school regulation-sized gymnasium that will be 40% larger than the current facility, exercise studios, multipurpose rooms and dedicated space for the Y's New Americans Initiative and youth programs.

The new YMCA will anchor Flushing Commons Phase II, a mixed-use development that will also include approximately 1.3 acres of publicly accessible open space, housing, offices, retail and dining. The project is supported by federal, state and city funding, along with private contributions from YMCA of Greater New York Board Chair Raymond Yu and the Yu family, Delta Air Lines and The Clark Foundation.
