On the 65th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz, Holocaust Memorial Day will be marked in Forest Hills by remembering one exceptional village in France which gave refuge to over 3,500 Jews. Holocaust survivor Hanne Liebman, a teenager during the war, was one of the Jews who were sheltered and fed by the farmers and housewives of this poor farming community, at enormous risk to their own lives. She will tell her story, “Refuge in Le Chambon & Flight to Safety,” about her experiences during the war years, first hidden in Le Chambon and her later flight through the French countryside to Switzerland.
Hanne Liebman’s talk is one event in Spring Author Programs presented by the Hevesi Jewish Heritage Library of the Central Queens YM & YWHA.
