The fire was declared an “all hands” blaze at 1:21 p.m., and after running hoses up several flights of stairs and an escape ladder to a fourth-floor window, firefighters declared the fire to be under control at 1:43 p.m.
The outside of the building showed no serious damage once the fire was out, though at least one Gardens resident watching from the sidewalk said he saw small amounts of smoke in a fourth-floor window.
There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
Fire marshals are still investigating the cause of the incident.
