Forest Hills Surrounded By Dangerous Streets
Pedestrian advocacy group releases list of dangerous Queens roads, and Forest Hills is home to many.

The Tri-State Transportation Campaign has released its list of the most dangerous roads in the borough, and it’s a three-way tie — with all three streets passing through or near Forest Hills.
The perennial number one on the list — Queens Boulevard — held onto its top spot but will share it with Jamaica Avenue and Union Turnpike, which were the scene of six pedestrian deaths each over the three-year period between 2008 and 2010.
The danger for pedestrians in Forest Hills didn’t stop with those three streets, either.

Already this year, the 112 Precinct has issued a
“Pedestrians in our community have been hit when they were not careful at stop signs. Everyone must understand and obey traffic signals and signs,” Precinct Council President Heidi Chain wrote. “Cross at the corners, using the crosswalks when available. Do not walk across the street from between parked cars. The drivers may not see you.”
