Police Confident Muggings Under Control In 112 Precinct

Youth-on-youth crime still a concern after mugging spree arrest.

At Wednesday night's precinct council meeting, Commander Officer Christopher Tamola said that the mugging spree which had Rego Park and Forest Hills on edge during the month of January seems to have subsided.

Tamola and other precinct representatives at the meeting said that while the mugging spree has come to an end, crime among teenagers is still an issue in the area.

"We have had a few youth-on-youth robberies," Tamola said. "Basically these are kids snatching each other's cell phones after school. Two arrests have been made for two separate incidents."

Nassau County resident Brian Rodriguez . A representative from Queens District Attorney Richard Brown's office said Rodriguez is currently being held on $200,000 bail and has an upcoming court date in March.

"That was probably the most serious robbery pattern since I've been here at the 112," he said. "We're very confident that he was the one doing it, and again, since he's been arrested we haven't had any more that fit that modus operandi."
