Precinct Sees Recent Robbery Rise

While many troublesome crimes in the area have actually reduced their numbers in recent data, robberies went up, both in the last month and the last week over the same period in 2011.

There were four robberies in the 112 Precinct between March 19 and March 25, an increase over the one reported incident during the same period last year. Compared to the last four weeks, there have been seven more robbery incidents in the precinct over last year.

However, the robbery numbers for the year overall are holding steady, with exactly 25 each taking place in 2012 and 2011 through March 25.

Felony assaults are on the rise in the borough, though a change in the legal statute that defines the difference between felony and misdemeanor assaults, based on the age difference between the attacker and victim has led to different calculations, a representative of the 112 Precinct said at a recent meeting.

Crime incidents, on the whole, seem to have leveled off somewhat, with every major category showing almost no change or a relatively slight decrease, with the exception being the new recording statistics for felony assaults.
