U.S. Marshals Assisted In Rescue Of Eight Abducted Children

Queens District Attorney plans eight counts each of kidnapping, child endangerment for parents.

Working in conjunction with a New York Police Department task force, the U.S. Marshals were able to identify Nadal and Payne and their children after their black Ford Econoline van was pulled over in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

According to the Marshal’s office, it appeared as though the entire family was planning to sleep in the vehicle. Other than the cramped quarters, police said it the children were in good condition.

Acting Marshal Martin Pane said the organization put all their effort towards ensuring the children were found and safely taken into custody.

“The U.S. Marshals Service committed all its efforts to finding these innocent young children,” Pane said. “Their safe recovery is a testament to the cooperative efforts of U.S. Marshals and their law enforcement counterparts.”

Patrol officers from Harrisburg were also involved in the apprehension of Nadal and Payne.

Meanwhile, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown plans to charge both Nadal and Payne with eight counts each of kidnapping, custodial interference and endangering the welfare of a child.

On Tuesday, Brown said that while the story is undoubtedly sad, the most important factor needs to be the health and well-being of the eight children involved.

“This is a sad story of a mother and father who have jeopardized their children’s safety by allegedly kidnapping them and taking them out of state,” Brown said. “These parents have now also put at risk the very relationships they were supposed to be building with their children during their supervised visits.”
