Using Google Calendar On Your iPhone or iPad? Then Read This

If you use Google Calendar on your iPhone or iPad there could be implications. Read to find out more.

You may already know how much I prefer a digital calendar to a paper calendar by my previous post about Google Calendar as well as about the advantages of a digital calendar. A while back I wrote about the advantages of the iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S5. One of the advantages I mentioned about the Samsung Galaxy S5 is that it is better for using Google Calendar than the iPhone 6.

If you are using a Google Calendar for basic functions, you should not have an issue. The issue is where someone shares their calendar with you. You may know that you can set up multiple calendars for your Google account. My wife and I do just that and share some of our calendars with each other. Depending on the calendar, we are able to not only view but edit it as well. Here is where the problem comes in. Some of the other person’s calendars may not appear on your iPhone or iPad. For example, I share my appointments calendar with my wife. When I set up the calendar on my wife’s iPhone, my appointments calendar and one other calendar did not show on it. When I set up my calendar on my Samsung Galaxy S5, all of the calendars she shares with me showed up.

That said, with my Samsung Galaxy S5 this is a seamless process. With the Apple iPhone 6, some intervention was necessary for this to work. On my wife’s phone, I needed to go to the following site: https://www.google.com/calendar/syncselect and log into her Gmail account. Once there, any calendars not checked that she wanted to see on her iPhone (there were 2) needed to be checked. Once this was done, she was able to see those 2 calendars on her iPhone. As an aside here, when I set up my iPad, I was not able to see all of the calendars my wife was sharing with me. I needed to do the same thing before being able to see those calendars on my iPad.

While it may not be seamless, you can sync those Google Calendars that others are sharing with you on your iPhone or iPad.
