68-Year-Old Fort Greene Woman's Rapist Gets 25-Year Sentence, Prosecutors Say
Willie Weathers was convicted of rape 13 years after he broke down the door of a Fort Greene woman's apartment in 2004, prosecutors said.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — A man who raped a 68-year-old woman in her Fort Greene apartment 13 years ago has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, prosecutors announced Monday.
Willie Weathers, 47, was convicted of pushing his way into his victim’s home and assaulting her on the evening of July 27, 2004, after he was arrested for attempting a kidnapping in 2013, prosecutors said.
Weathers broke down the 68-year-old woman's front door, strangled and raped her, then pulled off her necklace and bracelet, grabbed money from her dresser and ran away, said prosecutors.

The woman's husband came home from church about 30 minutes and took her to Brooklyn Hospital where a rape kit was administered, said prosecutors.
Weathers wasn’t caught until July 29, 2013, when he was arrested trying to kidnap someone by gunpoint and was ordered to submit his DNA to the New York State databank, said prosecutors.

Weathers’ DNA was run through the system and a “cold hit” matched him to the 2004 rape in Fort Greene, said prosecutors.
Weathers was convicted of rape in Brooklyn Criminal Court earlier in October and sentenced to 25 years in prison on Monday, prosecutors said.
