Cannoneer Women Volleyers Are Again Tops in HVIAC Tennis
4th Straight Title for Pratt; Jakubowska 1st-ever HVIAC Player of the Year and Cummings HVIAC Coach of the Year

Winning at the historic USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens has become old hat for Pratt Institute women’s tennis. As reported by Pratt Athletics, the Cannoneers captured their fourth straight Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Championship Saturday afternoon, sweeping all nine flights of the tournament.
Playing on the same courts where a month ago Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Andy Murray and Maria Sharapova competed in the US Open, Pratt’s top singles player Agata Jakubowska was named the inaugural HVIAC Player of the Year.
Fellow Cannoneer sophomore Megan Basaldua earned league Rookie of the Year honors. Jakubowska and Basaldua were joined by senior Gabriella Guerra on the All-HVIAC Team, to which the Cannoneers sent a league-high three members.

“I’m proud of our girls for a total team effort in winning all nine flights,” said Pratt head coach Shawn Cummings, who picked up HVIAC 2014 Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year honors. ”Agata (Jakubowska) and Megan (Basaldua) were justly recognized as Player and Rookie of the Year, and winning four titles in four years is a great way for Gabriella (Guerra) and Carson (Stanch) to go out.”
Guerra and Stanch complete the most successful tenure in conference history, winning the league championship in all four years of their Pratt careers.
