Celebrate Carnival with Cumbe February 6-7!

If you can't fly to Haiti or Trinidad & Tobago, celebrate Carnival with fellow dancers in New York!

If you can’t fly to Haiti or Trinidad & Tobago, celebrate Carnival with fellow dancers in New York! We’re bringing the beat of Haiti Kanaval with Julio Jean and Nadia Dieudonne, and Michael Manswell shows us how Trinis prepare for Carnival. Have fun with what you wear - masks, costumes, and fun outfits are welcome!
We have 2 celebrations going on:
--- Haitian Kanaval Celebration with Julio Jean and Nadia Dieudonne ---Saturday, February 6 from 6:00-8:00pm at Gibney Dance ($17)53 Chambers St, near Broadway
Come indulge yourself by lage ko’w (Creole for, “Let yourself go”) in a special Haitian Kanaval (Creole for “Carnival”) Celebration. You’ll learn popular rhythms and dances like Koy and Raboday. Especially in Jacmel, Haiti celebrates Carnival with extravagant paper maché masks and costumes - so feel free to bring your own.
--- Trinidad Jump Up: Carnival Celebration with Michael Manswell ---Sunday, February 7 from 2:00-3:30pm at Gibney Dance ($15)53 Chambers St, near Broadway
Learn traditional carnival steps in the Trini Jump & Wind style and use this as your pre-carnival prep! Get as creative and colorful as you like with your outfit, and get ready to move.
