COUNCILWOMAN UNNAMEABLE

Yesterday the StreetTalk I posted was in the form of an open letter to our brand new City Councilwoman.  The letter began, "Dear Councilwoman C_____.   Of course her name completed the salutation. Except Patch wouldn't post the blog with her name in it.

I know this because after I had finished writing, and pressed Post,  nothing happened.  I clicked again.  Again, nothing.  This put me in mind of the blog I wrote last summer about untruthfulness on the campaign trail by then candidate L____ C____.  The column, "Who Knew, Ingenue?" posted around midnight -- and was gone by morning.  Disappeared without a trace.  No one, in particular Patch Editor Matthew Hampton, knew what had happened, where the column could have gone.  He didn't know, really didn't know and didn't care and said he had no idea if columns disappeared a lot or a little or never before.  If anyone knows of any other articles that have gone missing on Patch, please leave a comment.  Meantime, as far as anyone knows, "Eh Tu, Ingenue?" is the only recorded case of an abducted blog.

That unsolved case gave me the idea to see if my letter would go up if I took the Councilwoman's name out.  Going No Name was Open Sesame!  The letter posted justlikethat!  It's a funny experience to have to write to a public official and not be able to address her by name, but those is the rules at Patch.  And not just here on my blog, because I wrote a comment on the Speak Out board yesterday, and same thing:  Councilwoman's name in:  No post!  Councilwoman's name out:  Post!

This  is a test to see how close Patch will let me get to her name.  Let's see if I can get as close as her initials, as in "To the Honorable L____
C____."
