Clinton Hill local Ruby Rae plays live this Sunday for the second installment of the Secret Garden Sessions at Chez Lola - our on-going music series showcasing local NYC talent - from acoustic to electronic.
Ruby Rae’s debut release title "Double Feature" could easily be mistaken for a night at the local drive-in when rock'n'roll still flirted with its honky-tonk roots. Her songs "It Came from the Swamp" and "Invisible Man" showcase country inflected instrumentation paired with heartfelt and sinister stories of guns, love, and loneliness. Ruby Rae plays with some amazing people including Ed Coleman, Ed Donahue, Olivia Mancini, Leland Sundries, Kristen Forbes, & Jaime Fallon
"The throwback honkytonk tunes of Ruby Rae [are] darker than your usual singer-songwriter fare, with noir-ish and Southern gothic influenced lyrics" - Washington Post, August 2011
