Jazmine Headley Reaches Deal In NJ Charges, lawyers say

The mother's charges from her viral arrest in New York were dropped yesterday, but she was still facing a warrant in New Jersey.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — Jazmine Headley has reached a deal on the New Jersey charges that kept her at Rikers Island for four nights after her now-viral arrest at a Fort Green social services office Friday.

Brooklyn Defender Services, who represent Headley, announced that she was issued a "pre-trial intervention." As part of the ruling, Headly will not plead guilty to the charges and they will be dismissed and expunged from her record after 36 months, or six months with early termination.

"Jazmine is satisfied with this outcome and gratified the case is resolved and behind her," the update said.

A judge had ordered Headley be released from Rikers Island on Tuesday, where she was being held on the New Jersey charges after New York police arrested her Friday. The case against her in New York — where police officers ripped her 1-year-old from her arms after cops were called when she sat on the floor of a social services office — was dropped by the district attorney Tuesday.

Supporters had created a petition asking that the New Jersey charges be dropped. There is also a GoFundMe page for Headley that has raised $32,000.
