As we approach the summer weather and start enjoying the outdoors, I feel it is a great opportunity to discuss our environment and how we can protect our community as we head into air-conditioning season. Everything from the air we breathe, to the water we drink, to the parks in our community are affect by how we live our daily lives. Which is why I feel it is so important to take some time in this E-Newsletter to discuss my policy plans to protect it.
Protecting our planet starts with our children, teaching the next generation the right way of treating our surroundings is the key to successfully maintaining our Earth. In the City Council I will ensure that recycling programs are taught and utilized effectively in school and encourage parents and teachers to re-use materials creatively for art and school projects.
In the City Council I will work with business owners and homeowners to increase solar panel use, finding alternatives that make them more affordable and realistic for the average rooftop. I will also find ways that City operated buildings and parks can contribute to the Solar Grid, making energy more affordable and renewable.
In the City Council I will work with Parks Department to widen their grant program, which provides green roofs, rain gardens, and rainwater harvesting to our community. In doing so our neighbors will be able to provide access to hyper-local fresh food. Expanding the grant program will also provide more opportunities for our children to learn about how plants grow and help our planet.
