12-Year-Old Boy Almost Kidnapped in Nassau

BREAKING: A man tried to kidnap him, but was interrupted by a passerby.

A boy was nearly kidnapped in Freeport Tuesday night, but the intervention of a passerby saved him.

According to detectives, a 12-year-old boy was walking north on North Brookside Avenue at 5:04 p.m. when a man came up from behind him and placed his hand over the boy's mouth. As the boy struggled to break free, a passerby honked the horn of their car and the man released the boy and then fled south on North Brookside Avenue.

No injuries were reported.

The man was black, in his 30s, with a stocky build and wearing a green jacket and jeans.
