Roosevelt High School Explores Washington, D.C. on Immersive Field Trip

Students from Roosevelt High School recently embarked on an enriching educational trip to Washington, D.C. as part of a collaborative experience between the school’s My Sisters Keeper and JROTC programs. The trip provided students with opportunities to explore the nation’s capital, engage with American history, strengthen leadership skills and build meaningful peer connections.

During their visit, students explored several of the nation’s most significant historic and civic landmarks in Washington, D.C. Beyond the classroom, the experience emphasized core values shared by both programs such as teamwork, responsibility and personal growth. The collaboration highlights the District’s ongoing commitment to providing students with high-impact educational experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

“Our students represented Roosevelt with professionalism, respect and pride in our nation’s capital,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “Experiences like this not only broaden their horizons academically but also strengthen their confidence, character and sense of community.”

The field trip experience builds on the District’s launch of the New York State My Sister’s Keeper initiative, a program designed to support the academic, social, and emotional development of girls and young women of color. Rooted in empowerment, leadership development, and sisterhood, the program is committed to helping participants realize their full potential while fostering supportive peer networks and mentorship opportunities.
