Freeport Home Left Uninhabitable By Weekend Fire: NCFM

FREEPORT, NY — A Freeport home was rendered uninhabitable Friday night after a fire started on its first floor and drew the response of 50 firefighters, officials said.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office said the fire was called in at 7:55 p.m., with firefighters from the Freeport Fire Department responding to the home on Lena Avenue. The first firefighters on the scene saw the 2.5-story house with a fire on its first floor, officials said.

While the occupants of the home had self-evacuated, mutual aid came in from Baldwin, Hempstead, North Merrick, Rockville Centre and Roosevelt departments, with the firefighting coalition putting out the blaze in about 25 minutes, officials said.

No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters, the fire marshal’s office said. In the aftermath of the blaze the home is being inspected by local building officials while the fire marshal’s office and NCPD arson/bomb detectives investigate the cause of the fire, officials said.
