Prosecutors say the 2024 attack, threats with a gun, and ongoing harassment only ended when the victim bravely came forward, leading to his conviction on kidnapping, assault, weapons, and drug charges.
3. Fraudulent Freeport tax preparer who fleeced the IRS of millions for her clients, sentenced to four years in prison (liherald.com) — A Freeport business owner has been sentenced to four years in federal prison for running a years-long tax and Covid-aid fraud scheme tied to her Freeport-based tax preparation companies. Prosecutors say she helped clients claim bogus credits, costing the IRS nearly $11 million, and now must repay over $11.6 million, with Freeport police among the agencies assisting the investigation.
4. October 9, 2026 Events on Long Island (longisland.com) — Freeport residents can head to Catcher's Fish House today for a waterfront "Weekend on the Waterfront" experience on the Nautical Mile, featuring food, cocktails, music, and harbor views. 5. Harper Street DOT Building Reaches Topping-Out Milestone (ccr-mag.com) — A major Queens DOT yard redevelopment is moving forward with its structural frame now topped out, and a Freeport-based contractor, Peter Scalamandre & Sons, is part of the design-build team. The upgraded Harper Street facility will centralize roadway repair operations, add flood protections, and incorporate sustainable features like geothermal heating and EV charging that support infrastructure work across the region.
