ROOSEVELT, NEW YORK (October 2026) — The Roosevelt Union Free School District recently welcomed its new ex-officio student member of the Board of Education for the 2026-2027 school year, Destynee Allen. A Roosevelt High School senior, Destynee is an active member of the school community and brings a valuable student perspective to the board.
Destynee excels in her academics and is heavily involved in her school's extracurricular activities. While maintaining a 90+ GPA, earning High Honor Roll recognition, and taking multiple AP courses, she is also a member of the Girls Varsity Swim Team and Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team. Displaying strong leadership skills, Destynee is involved in the student government, focusing on fundraising efforts for Roosevelt High School, and is a member of the National Honor Society. She also participates in the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP), where she explores scientific concepts through hands-on activities and educational field trips.
Per New York State law, an ex-officio student member is a non-voting board of education member who represents the student body and serves as a valuable resource for the board. Such members are entitled to sit with board trustees at all public meetings and hearings. They do not participate in votes nor executive sessions, meetings, and hearings not open to the public.
"I was inspired to serve on the board to be a voice for students," Destynee said. "My goal is to encourage more students to join the Student Advisory Committee and work together to find ways to improve our school. Thank you to the Board of Education and district administration for this opportunity to be a part of the board. I look forward to representing my peers throughout the year."
