Nassau Man Identified As Man Killed In Road Rage Beating: Police

David McKenzie, 54, died a short time after he was brought to a local hospital, police said.

BALDWIN, NY — Nassau police say that it was a 54-year-old man from Baldwin who died after a road rage beating in Baldwin on Saturday night.

David McKenzie was taken to local hospital where he was pronounced dead early Sunday morning after he was involved in an argument over a car crash at the intersection of Schuman Place and Forest Avenue with Patrick Destine, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the intersection just before 11 p.m., when McKenzie and the 26-year-old Destine were involved in a collision and both men got out of their vehicles and began to argue, according to police.

Destine, of Queens, began violently assaulting Mckenzie, continuously kicking him in his head and causing severe head trauma, police said. Destine was arrested after a short foot chase and later charged with second-degree murder, as well as driving while intoxicated.

The investigation is ongoing.
