Car Crashes Into Freeport Canal; Driver In Critical Condition
The water rescue took place Tuesday morning.

FREEPORT, NY — A car drove into the canal Tuesday morning in Freeport.
The Freeport Fire Department said on its Facebook page that the "water rescue emergency" took place on Gordon Place. The victim was removed from a submerged vehicle, initially with the help of a Ukranian immigrant, before multiple agencies arrived, Newsday reported.
The man was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, the newspaper said.

The Freeport Fire Department thanked its mutual aid partners, including firefighters from Wantagh and East Rockaway, "for their quick & expedient response. All in all, a job well done by all, regardless of outcome."
