Deli Worker In Critical Condition After Being Shot By Robber
Police say the clerk never got a chance to give the robber money before he was shot.

The worker at a deli in Freeport was critically wounded after a robber shot him twice early Wednesday morning, police said.
According to the Nassau County Police Department, Freeport police received a call around 2:30 a.m. for shots fired. Newsday reports the call came from the Family Gourmet Deli, located on North Main Street.
According to police, a man entered the store armed with a gun. He pointed it at the clerk and demanded money. Before the clerk could respond, the man fired twice, striking the clerk once in the chest and once in the leg.

The clerk was taken to a local hospital, and is still listed in critical condition.
Police are still investigating, and say it is unclear at this time if the man stole anything. The robber was wearing dark clothes and a dark, had-plastic mask, police say.
