Fire officials say one firefighter was treated at the scene of the fire for a dog bite.
FREEPORT, NY. — Ten people and a dog are out of home Wednesday after a fire in a two-story private home drew the response of five fire departments, the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office said.
Fire officials said the alarm was raised at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Washington Avenue home, with the Freeport Fire Department responding to the two-story house to put it out. Firefighters from Baldwin, Hempstead, Merrick and Roosevelt were on the scene for mutual aid, bringing the total number of firefighters to about 60, fire officials said.
The fire was brought under control in 35 minutes, but not before it displaced the people and the dog, fire officials said. There was only one injury reported in the blaze, a dog bite suffered by a firefighter and treated by EMS on the scene, the fire marshal’s office said.
