Freeport Man Charged With DWI in Hempstead: Cops

The man was pulled over after he was caught driving east in the westbound lane of the road, police said.

HEMPSTEAD, NY - A Freeport man was charged with a DWI in Hempstead early Monday morning, according to Nassau Police.

A highway patrol officer saw 32-year-old Carlos A. Rodriguez driving his 2002 Jeep east in the westbound lane on Centre Street and then turn right traveling south in the northbound lane on Greenwich Street in Hempstead at about 2:15 a.m., police said.

The officer than stopped the car and found Rodriguez was driving the car under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and placed into police custody, police said. There were no injuries reported.

Rodriguez was charged with aggravated driving while Intoxicated, driving while intoxicated, driving the wrong way, and numerous other vehicle and traffic law violations, police said.

He will be arraigned on Monday.
