Freeport School Budget Vote, Trustee Election Tuesday

Here's what you need to know before heading to the polls.

Freeport residents will head to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots for a proposed school budget and to elect school board trustees.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Atkinson School.

The Freeport Board of Education is proposing a budget of $170,138,538 for 2016-17. That represents a 1.80 percent spending increase over the current year with a 0.09 percent decrease in the school tax levy.

Voters will also elect school board trustees on Tuesday.

Incumbents Anthony J. Miller and Michael Pomerico will both be running unopposed for the two open seats on the school board. The terms are both for three years.
