Local Educator Has 'Humbling Experience' Flying With Blue Angels

The Freeport Superintendent of Schools was selected for the 45-minute demonstration.

WANTAGH, NY — Before the famed US Navy Blue Angels soared above Jones Beach as part of the Memorial Day weekend Bethpage Air Show, they had a special guest in the cockpit.

On Friday, Freeport Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham was picked as one of the two civilians to fly in the back of the Blue Angels jet.

"I am honored to have been chosen for this unique experience," Kuncham said. "It was a truly humbling experience that I will always cherish."

He qualified for the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron Backseat Rider Program as a Key Influencer, in shaping the attitudes and opinions of youth in their communities.

After a flight briefing, Kuncham was in the air with Blue Angels Pilot Lt. Griffin Stangel for a 45-minute ride through the clouds.

Along with family and friends, Kuncham invited three members of the Freeport High School NJROTC to savor the moment as well.
