The office of Immigration &amp; Refugee Services is recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice to counsel, process, file, and represent clients before the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and EOIR Immigration Court. Our organization provides essential support to Ukrainian Humanitarian parolees through the Ukraine Supplemental Appropriation to Resettlement Agencies (USARA) Program. Through USARA, we help individuals and families achieve stability, economic independence, and successful integration into the community. We serve Ukrainian citizens paroled into the U.S., as well as non-Ukrainians who resided in Ukraine and were paroled into the U.S. between February 24, 2022 and September 30, 2024. Our staff offers a wide range of social and employment services, including: • Development of a personalized self-sufficiency plan • Case management and referrals • Employment services, job search skills, and work experience opportunities • Outreach and community support • Social and cultural adjustment assistance • English language support • Help with school, benefits, and local resource navigation • Transitional services and employment retention support We serve Ukrainian citizens paroled into the U.S., as well as non-Ukrainians who resided in Ukraine and were paroled into the U.S. between February 24, 2022 and September 30, 2024. Rooted in compassion and dignity, Catholic Charities of Long Island is committed to helping newcomers rebuild their lives and feel safe, supported, and empowered within their new community.

Nassau police arrested a Freeport man on Tuesday and charged him with attempted criminal sexual act after they say he attacked a woman last week.According to police, a 44-year-old woman was walking alone in the rear of an apartment complex at 260 South Main St. at 11:30 a.m. on April 24 when she was approached from behind by Umari Taylor, 20, of Ocean Avenue North. Police say Taylor demanded the woman take off her clothes, and a struggle ensued. Taylor pulled out a knife, police say, and pressed it against the woman's hip, and then put it against her throat and demand she take off her pants. Taylor then exposed himself to the woman, police say, and she screamed. He then fled on foot. An investigation led police to Taylor, and he was placed under arrest.Taylor was charged with first-degree attempted criminal sexual act. He was arraigned on Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
